Continuous Improvement with the Quality Assurance System
Quality improvement is vital—but it doesn't have to be overwhelming. You can get support and clear direction with the Quality Assurance System® (QAS®).
A powerful online tool developed by the Center for Afterschool Education, QAS guides your team's efforts to observe, reflect and plan for improvement in 10 areas:
- Program planning and improvement
- Leadership
- Facility and program space
- Health and safety
- Staffing
- Family and community connections
- Social climate
- Academics
- Recreation
- Youth development
Detailed rating rubrics provide specific examples of quality and best practice. Use the QAS to create a targeted improvement plan based on elements you think are most important to address in your program.
Staff can conduct and review the quality elements and examples together to:
- See specifics of what highest quality looks like
- Set goals directly linked to indicators of quality
- Focus on areas needing immediate attention—without losing sight of less urgent changes
- Approach change in a systematic, manageable way
At the end of the program year, the QAS guides you through a careful re-look at the program to highlight where you've accomplished improvement goals and where to focus next. The Center for Afterschool Education also offers training and consultation to support your QAS implementation.
