A New Vision, a New School, a Revitalized Community

Ambitious plans are under way to restore the neighborhood of East Baltimore into a thriving community. Assisted by the expertise of Foundations, Inc., a new school will serve as one of the neighborhood anchors.

Foundations worked on many aspects of the development of the new Pre-K through eighth grade school, playing a central role in East Baltimore Development Incorporated’s (EBDI) community revitalization efforts. We researched model schools across the country, engaged the community, were heavily involved in school design and drafted the application that won approval from the Baltimore City Public School System.

In addition, we developed the search process for the head of the school and now work with the new head of school in interviewing staff and recruiting students for the new school.

Set to open in 2009, the school will set a new standard for innovation, applying best practices in teaching and leadership. It will fully engage parents and community members and forge a new model of public-private governance.

In keeping with Foundations’ strong belief that learning continues long after the last school bell rings, we’ve also helped EBDI design integrated services for four area schools in a network with the East Baltimore Community School that will provide quality afterschool programming, mentoring and health and social service support for their middle school students.
