Premier Gathering of Afterschool Practitioners and Thought Leaders

Foundations offers afterschool staff development at numerous venues throughout the year, but none rival our annual Beyond School Hours Winter Institute (BSH)—convened by the United States Department of Education and 21st Century Community Learning Centers.

Since 1998, thousands of afterschool professionals from across the U.S., Canada and Mexico have gathered at BSH to exchange new ideas, discuss educational trends and best practices and learn about the nation’s most promising, successful afterschool programs.

BSH serves as a one-stop shop to collect information and connect with colleagues. Attendees also have opportunities to improve and expand their skills through the variety of workshops offered by Foundations’ Center for Afterschool Education.

Studies have repeatedly shown that students in quality afterschool programs have higher grades, fewer disciplinary problems and better social relationships with their peers. At BSH, educational leaders keep a sharp focus on strategies to improve the quality of afterschool offerings—and improve the outcomes for children and youth everywhere.
